Close, face-only shots
A smaller ring light (18-26cm) works well when you\’re sitting close to the camera, like most video calls and talking-head content.
Half-body and desk setups
Mid-size lights (around 26-33cm) give more even coverage when you\’re further from the camera or want softer, less concentrated light.
Full-body or multi-person shots
Larger lights (40cm+) or multiple smaller lights become necessary once you need to light more than just a face at close range.
Room size matters too
A large ring light in a small room can actually overwhelm the space and create harsh reflections off nearby walls — sometimes a smaller light positioned well outperforms a bigger one placed awkwardly.
